This week we are continuing our discussion on the lies that Type 2 diabetics are often told. If you have read last week’s post, you are aware that most of the misinformation comes unfortunately from the medical experts tasked with aiding these patients on their journey in dealing with the disease and symptoms and this is true for the lies and myths we are covering this week as well.
Lie Number Six: Type 2 Diabetics are often told; you deserve to eat whatever you want. I have a suspicion that the big food industry manufactured this lie. They pressure dieticians and health care providers to come to this conclusion. Diabetics are only human, they deserve to eat birthday cake too, but what they really deserve is to keep their toes, and their retina intact, and to maintain good kidney function.
Lie Number Seven: Type2 Diabetics should never fast and should eat either a meal or a snack, every 2 hours either. This fact is correct if you’re on a medication that raises your serum insulin levels, you take insulin injections or taking a medication like glyburide. In these instances, not eating on a regular basis will result in low blood sugar.
The misinformation of this fact is what medical experts often withhold from their patients; that if you lower your carbohydrate intake enough, you can reach a place where you are able to stop injectable insulin, this is possible for every type 2 diabetic out there.
Reducing your carb intake will also improve your blood sugar and A1C enough that you can get off the glyburide. Once you have reached a place where you are no longer dependent on these meds, and you’re only taking glucophage or metformin, you’re never going to experience dangerously low levels of blood sugar again. Once you reach this place in your health journey, you can start to fast for longer periods of time which will allow your blood sugar and insulin levels to be controlled better and eventually get back to normal, healthy levels.
Lie Number Eight: Type 2 Diabetics are often told that they would be better off eating a plant-based diet that is full of whole grains and lots of fruit and to stay far away from saturated fats, red meat, and egg yolks.
This is one of the most dangerous and devastating lies that Type 2 Diabetics are told. Following this advice will never allow you to obtain a normal A1C levels.
If your diet is filled with junk food, ultra processed foods, chips, and candy bars, drinking coke and Pepsi all day then converting to a plant base diet or even a Vegan diet will probably improve your levels of inflammation your A1c and your blood sugar levels. This is a result of adjusting an incredibly unhealthy diet to a healthier diet that includes more whole foods and less processed foods. However, research shows no one on a plant-based diet who avoids red meat and eggs has a normal A1C. You can improve your A1C on a plant-based diet, but you will never have a normal A1C UNLESS you’re eating a proper human diet that includes fatty seafood, fatty red meat, and fatty egg yolks. It is mandatory for you have an A1C that is normal.
Lie Number Nine: Most Type 2 Diabetics believe, and this includes the undiagnosed Type 2 Diabetics as well, that you must be overweight or obese to have Type 2 Diabetes; this is absolutely not true. You can be a skinny Type 2 Diabetic or a normal Type 2 Diabetic; this can be the most dangerous type 2 Diabetic. You can run around for decades before something happens and you end up in the hospital and they just happen to check your blood sugar and its 400.
This means you have been doing damage to every organ, every little blood vessel in your body for decades before you find out. This is why everyone over the age of 35 years old should get their A1C checked, even if there is no family history of Type 2 Diabetics or even if you’ve had no symptoms of Type 2 Diabetics at least once a year.
Get your hemoglobin A1C checked so if you are becoming pre-diabetic or Type 2 Diabetic which can be silent. The only way to know is to have it checked.
Lie Number Ten: Type 2 Diabetics believe – and they believe this because they’re told this by their doctor or the American Diabetics Association – that if your Hemoglobin, A1C is under a seven then it’s perfect and you’re at no risk or complications.
This is not only untrue, but it is a very harmful lie. You are still at risk of a premature death, anywhere from 20-30 years prematurely, and it won’t be a nice peaceful death.
You can lose body parts including fingers and toes, you may have to go on dialysis, and you can even go blind. A normal hemoglobin A1C is 5.6 or lower, if it’s one tenth over that it’s not perfect, it will increase your risk of disastrous complications that come from Type 2 Diabetes. Please do not believe this lie, question your doctor or healthcare provider and be your own advocate for your health. Tell them you would like to have a normal A1C, you think it will be healthier in the long run.
Lie Number Eleven: The reason you’re a Type 2 Diabetic is because your pancreas is burnt out, it’s just not making enough insulin anymore.
This is another harmful lie because many Type 2 Diabetics will think that they’re screwed; they assume there is nothing they can do to reverse it and they will have to keep taking meds and insulin injections for the rest of their life.
The truth is that with just two tests, you can know immediately if your pancreas is still making insulin; and not only that, but you can also know if it’s making too much insulin AKA, Hyperinsulinemia. If you’re not injecting insulin, ask your doctor for a fasting insulin test. If you are injecting insulin, ask your doctor for a C- Peptide test. If you are truly a Type 2 Diabetic, you will have Hyperinsulinemia which is just as dangerous as having High blood sugar. This should have you focus all of your attention on your diet because that is how you will reverse your Type 2 Diabetes. You will need to be on a very low carbohydrate diet, proper human diet.
Please share this with your friends and family members that are Type 2 Diabetics, if they believe two or more of these lies their eyes will be closed to the solution of what will reverse their Type 2 Diabetes and give them a normal A1C. They need to know that it is their diet that is causing their Type 2 Diabetes. It can be fixed and they can reverse their Type 2 Diabetes. I know it works because I have done it.
